Artist Bio

In my paintings, I attempt to capture the light, rhythm and romance that is the essence of our very special area. I hope you enjoy them!

I was born and raised in New Orleans and received my art education at McCrady School of Fine Art in the French Quarter. I have been an artist for over 30 years and my paintings are in collections throughout the United States and abroad.

I paint primarily in oil on canvas, with emphasis on the vibrancy, color and light of southern Louisiana. As my method of painting requires long hours in my studio, building the painting by layers - thin darks up to opaque lights, I do not paint on location. Instead, I take numerous reference photos, return to my studio, work out my composition - and begin my painting. Throughout the painting process, in addition to accurately rendering the street, my mind is filled with the feel of the French Quarter street - the sounds, smells and "vibrations" of the scene in my painting. I attempt to convey these emotions through my painting. My hope is that as you look at the painting through the years, you don't just remember the street, you still "feel" the street!

My originals are primarily oil, painted on professional stretched canvas, many on stretched linen. Linen canvas is regarded as superior because the threads are narrower (finer) and the weave tighter. Once stretched and primed, linen canvas is less likely to stretch or shrink, or threads move or distort. Whether linen or cotton canvas is used in the painting, the canvas is of professional grade quality. Prints are professionally printed on heavy lustre paper (no ink jet prints!), matted (if you prefer) and ready for framing. Mats are museum grade, acid-free, professional mats.

I am a member of the St. Tammany Art Association, Art for Madisonville Association, the Arts Council of New Orleans and New Orleans Art Association. Although I have lived in many places in the U.S. and abroad, there is no place I would rather be than here, in south Louisiana, painting my wonderful home town and the outlying swamps and bayous.
