Self Portrait

I have a passion for art. I didn't use to consider myself an artist. I didn't take more than the required art classes in school because I did not know how to draw. I always wished that I had artistic talent.

I've always enjoyed nature: camping, fishing, hiking, floating down the Frio River and watching the clouds overhead. Many years ago I became even more fascinated with the colors and textures of clouds and trees. I began to wonder if the mechanics of painting and drawing could be taught. I finally became brave enough to call around and find art classes. I first worked with two different painting teachers and then put away my paints for a couple of years.

I again longed to paint, and met Mary Cotton of Mary Cotton Art Academy in Houston, TX, and have grown so much as an artist under her tutelage. I embarked on a fascinating journey, and on these pages are some of the examples of my art. My style is ever-evolving (as with most artists); I have learned to become looser in my approach to the subjects I choose to paint. I prefer painting in oils, but occasionally paint with pastels and acrylics.

My artwork can be found in private and corporate collections in Missouri, Florida, and Texas. I have taken one commission for a pet portraits, and my customer was delighted with the painting. I am open to taking on more pet portrait commissions.
