Norma (1989)

36" X 36" (Canvas) Norma Jean Baker - My attempt at channeling her innocent and happier early days (as seen in her Andre de Dienes photos). Standing on an elevated plateau overlooking a distant village and body of water. The elegant dress (unusual in this setting), sunglasses, and part calm - part threatening skies, symbolize conflict and the barriers between the isolated, often troubled soul and the popular persona portrayed to the mass public.

I love that you call her by her real name, she was an orphan that Hollywood took advantage of, her innocent heart wanting love so much and freely giving it, she did not realize fully what the tax of the world would do...Norma never had anyone to truly cherish her for her soul and seems she was never taught to value herself for the women and child that she was...I am sure the Angels have her now and she no longer cries, great sensitive work, John...Now if they could only see her for her true beauty.

The background is marvellous and the portrait of Norma is really great. Wonderful piece of art, John.
