Canadian artist, Rob Payne works out of his home studio in Cambridge, Ontario. As a student, he excelled at art, graduating as his school’s top artist. Although he did not pursue his art as a career, he did graduate from Mohawk College with a degree in Graphic Arts Production and currently enjoys a career in the printing industry.
Rob uses the pen & ink technique known as “Pointillism” or “Stippling”. He has utilized his knowledge of color separation to develop his unique style. It is a style where an image is optically formed by layers of color that are layed down as dots or 'points'. From only a few inches away, the finished piece looks like a cluster of dots. Viewed from a distance, however, the finished piece looks extremely realistic and strikingly artistic. It is a very painstaking process, and requires many, many hours to complete, but the end result speaks for itself.
Rob’s favorite subject matter has always been Portraits – specifically sports figures and celebrities. He finds that recreating a famous face is both challenging and rewarding.
Rob is available to do commissions.
