This is a color pencil painting based on an old photo taken by my father-in-law. I think that this is my mother-in-law walking. They are both gone now, but I can't help but wondering where she was headed at this point in her life. I felt that this contained a good concept for a painting that perhaps contains several layers of meaning to each viewer. It is done on Dura-lar polyester film using Prismacolor Verithin pencils. Its dimensions are 5 inches X 7 inches. I welcome comments on this painting and any of the other found in my portfolio.

Will, this is breathtaking. Great perspective, colors and contrast. As if I'm standing on the road behind her.

Artist Reply: Jane: thank you so much for these generous comments. I'm amazed that this particular painting has received so many very generous comments. I think that it's just one of those mysterious ourcomes. I tried to render a lonely mood, but the colors and lighting just worked out even better than my talent had hoped. Perhaps a little magic in a box! Thank you again and best regards, Will.

Love these kinds of pictures Will. It makes me think of where they might be going and thinking. You do such excellent pencil work it hard to tell it's not a photograph. Great job Will!

Artist Reply: Joe: Thank you so very much for this particular comment! For someone who does photorealistic work, this is a very high compliment indeed. I also appreciate your comment because of what a talented photographer you are. You have a keen eye through your lens. Thank you again and as always, best regards, Will.

First and foremost what impresses me is the sense of design. I've seen quite a lot of pencil work in my time, but often the details seem overworked, no matter how skillfully done. Not here. Actually, using the zoom, the detail is quite 'broad', and this ease of handling makes the composition all the stronger and more beguiling.

Artist Reply: Tony: Wow! Your comments are over the top, but I am so humbled by them. Thank you so very, very much. I apologize for taking so long to reply. I missed the notice in my email. But I want you to know that my temporary lack of a response in no way reduces how touched by your comments that I am. Have a great day. Best regards, Will

LOOKS JUST LIKE A PHOTO, WILL. LOOKS LIKE A VERY BEAUTIFUL, BUT YOU HAVE SUCCEEDED IN CREATING A LONELY DESOLATE ATMOSPHERE. WHICH I THINK IS AMAZING TO ME SINCE MOST ALL SCENES WITH SUCH TREES I NOT ONLY FIND TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL BUT I ALSO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THEM.

Artist Reply: Sharon: I do try to render my work as photorealistic. My attention to detail probably comes from 31 years as a gross anatomy professor! This tends to carry over to my art as well. I'm very glad that my painting touched you so deeply. Best regards, Will

Julie Mayser 31 Jul 2014

Very beautiful work... amazing detail and terrific sense of place!

Artist Reply: Julie: thank you so much for your generosity. Your comments are much appreciated. I do love detail. I believe that this comes from being a gross anatomy professor for 31 years prior to my retirement. Detail tended to carry over to my art as well. Thank you again. I want to say again that your pastel work is amazing. Best regards, Will

Artist Reply: Jerry: thank you so much for your comments about my work. I am a detail oriented person. Stems from being a retired gross anatomy professor of 31 years. Habits are hard to alter and detail is also a big part of my art. Best regards, Will

This is so beautiful Will. It has a lonesome look to it yet there can be so much comfort in solitude, wonderful work, my POD!

Artist Reply: Kate: thank you again for your very generous comments! They are most appreciated. I work from photographs that either my wife or myself shot, but none of them are as spectacular as your photographs. I wish that I had your eye for "the shot". Have a great 4th. Best regards, Will

Will your work is a creation of a gifted person, I was lucky enough to start using Gods gift at the age of 7. I use to pick up carbon coal along the railroad tracks, that would fall off the coal hoppers. Seeing it transferred to my hands started a long use of it. Your work reminds me of my Carbon Coal Work. Love it and am glad that you enjoy mine.

Artist Reply: Scotty: Thank you so much for these comments and a small window into your creativity. I looked through your whole portofolio and I find it just amazing! I really don't understand the technique that you use. Do you grind your own mineral pigments? What do you put the initial image down with? By the way, thank you for the art share. I will look forward to seeing more of your work at artwanted.com as you post it. Black and white paintings are very striking in their own right, but I agree that a touch of color makes everything jump out at the viewer. Keep creating, my friend. Regards, Will

Vernonette Gaddy 12 Jun 2014

Marvelous looking artwork, and I am awed by the realistic details in your art.

Artist Reply: Vernonette: thank you so much for your comments! They are greatly appreciated. I love detail and this is why I am very gratified with the results I get using colored pencils. The Prismacolor Verithin pencils really help. Where I can, I use the Premier Prismacolor pencils. Thank you again for your appreciation of my work. Regards, Will

Joanie Holliday 14 May 2014

Pamela Rivera 13 May 2014

excellent!!!!

Artist Reply: Pamela: thank you for your kind comment and for taking the time to check out my work. I especially appreciate your taking the time to comment. I looked at your beautiful photographs and I see paintings from most of them. I especially like the head of the dandelion. I would love to paint one like it. Maybe I'll let some our yard dandelions go to seed! Thanks again. Regards, Will
