This is a colored pencil painting of a still life consisting of crayola crayons. It is done on Dura-lar polyester matte surfaced film using Prismacolor Verithin pencils. The painting is 8 inches X 10 inches. I wanted to do this painting because who among us did not begin their creative adventure using crayolas? I hope that it brings back fond memories.

Amazing work! This really stands out in your portfolio....

Artist Reply: Julie: thank you so much for such a nice comment. We all began with crayons and I felt that they deserved some recognition in the fine art world. Without crayons, maybe none of us would be the creative folks we are. Thanks again and have a good day. Best regards, Will

Realistic looking and fun!

Artist Reply: Mark: Who didn't begin their journey into art with the Crayola? The medium that started us off actually doesn't get very much respect except for young children. I decided to salute them through this piece. Thanks. Best regards, Will

Hi Will, I looked at your portfolio and this picture is one of my favorites. The title says it all, it brings me back to childhood and they truly are magic in a box. Well done, I really love this. Gary

Artist Reply: Gary: thank you so much for your really generous comments. I'm glad that this piece has real meaning for you. I feel that most viewers can relate to crayolas in their early lives, but not all go back to it as you did. Congratulations. I too like that quote that you put at the end of your bio. Have a great day and best regards, Will

Awesome! Yes, I even remember my favorite coloring book!

Artist Reply: Jane: crayolas are everyone's first love. We all began with them and most of us don't reconnect until our children and/or grand children discover their magic. May the magic never dull! Best regards, Will

this is amazing!!!

Artist Reply: Ruth: thanks so much for your very nice comment! This painting was lots of fun to do because we all have a soft spot in our hearts and memories for crayolas. Have a great day. Best regards, Will

Thanks for the comment on my bananas! Your work is amazing! I also work in colored pencil, but have never tried the film.

Artist Reply: Ann: thank you so much for such a generous comment on my work. It is much appreciated. The Dura-lar matte surfaced polyester film is wonderful to work on with colored pencils. Because of the detail work that I enjoy doing, the film allows for such a smooth finished surface. It doesn't hold nearly as many layers of color as does paper, but the advantage is that you can add color to both sides of the film. You definitely should try some. I purchase it through Dick Blick art supplies. Have a good day. Best regards, Will

Great work and takes me back to childhood whenever you had that thrill of opening up a new box of coloured pencils.

Artist Reply: Tony: thank you so much! This is exactly the emotion that I hoped that this piece would provoke in viewers. I hope that your weekend has gone well. Best regards, Will

Excellent work Will and thank you for stopping by my portfolio site.

Artist Reply: Sandra: It was a joy viewing your portfolio. I only looked briefly, but I see that your are a master photographer. And thank you too for taking time to look at my work. I appreciate your kind comment. I work from photographs that my wife takes and transform them into the colored pencil paintings that you see in my portfolio. It takes a bit of time, but I love doing detail and I love colors. It's quite relaxing actually. We go on "field" trips looking for scenes that would seem to be likely to make an excellent painting for my next attempt. Thanks again and best regards, Will

YES, MEMORIES. CRAYONS WERE ALWAYS A GREAT CHILDHOOD PLEASURE. WONDERFUL WORK!

Artist Reply: Lillian: Thank you very much for the kind comments. Crayons bring back memories to all of us, artist or not. I love photorealistic work, as my portfolio shows. Your photographs are very nice. The mother goose and the two young struck home with me. I'm a bicycle rider and have been attacked many times on the trail by a nervous mother. They're fun to look at, but don't get too close! Best regards, Will

Joseph Swenarton 05 Jul 2014
