These two horses were grazing in a pasture near Hawi on the Big Island of Hawaii. They look like the breed of Spanish horses brought over to the Islands when ranching was begun during the early European/American settlements. The Hawai'ian cowboys, called paniolos, are a heritage from those days, and can still be found today ranching at Parker Ranch on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Image copyright Cher Peterson.
