Artist comment: "My favorite color combination is red, white, and blue (I was born just after the 4th of July), so I get excited when I see any kind of representation thereof. This delightful spinsock was obsered at the beach on a beautiful late summer day. I couldn't resist photographing it and painting it with pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper. Beginning with the sky, I chose a purple-blue so to not conflict with the colors in the kite. After doing the entire background, I carefully started with first the white, then the blue, leaving the red (and the spikes) for the last. I'm pleased with the outcome of one of my favorite pastel paintings."
