miracle escape

on the night of 4th nov 1944, handley page halifax3, lv936 took off from RAF driffield to attack Bochum in germany, whilst over the target the aircraft was hit by flak, F/L Herman (pilot) was very lucky as the aircraft blew up in the air before he could put on his parachute, as he headed towards the ground without a chute he bumped into F/S Vivash ( MID UPPER GUNNER ) and grabbed hold of his legs, both then made a safe landing to become PoW's. crew= pilot - f/l j herman - p.o.w bomb aimer - p/o underwood - k.i.a navagator - f/o nicholson - k.i.a wireless op' - p/o duncan - k.i.a engineer - sgt knot - p.o.w mid upper turret - p/o vivash - p.o.w tail turret - p/o wilson - k.i.a
