A Scarlet Eden

This is a memorial piece of art for Scarlet, the crested gecko (Correlophus ciliatus, formerly Rhacodactylus ciliatus). I wanted to depict her in a type of paradise or beautiful Eden and chose the forests of New Caledonia, where the crested gecko is native to. 2014 holiday commission. The plants are all endemic to New Caledonia and are as follows: Bulbophyllum longiflorum, Dendrobium ngoyense, Amyema scandens, Calanthe sp (triplicate?), Dysoxylum roseum, Dysoxylum macranthum, Baloghia inophylla, Flagellaria indica, Adiantum capillus-veneris, an unknown palm, and some unknown ferns. The fungi, also occurring to New Caledonia, are: Coprinus disseminates (fairies bonnets, fairy inkcap), Fomes fomentarius (tinder conk), Oudemansiella Sp, Pycnoporus sanguineus Admittedly I don’t know if Amyema scandens occurs at the same elevation or in the same climate as all these other plants, but I wanted to draw it so… that’s that. © Parker (Styx) 2014
