*****I have decided that 20% of my income from my photography will go to New England Equine Rescues ( www.newenglandequinerescues.org ) to help them rescue and care for needy horses.*****
I took (SLR) photography in high school (over 20 years ago) and found that photography brought me to a very quiet, peaceful, focused, almost Zen, place. When I am taking a photograph the world slides away and there is just me and the message I wish to convey with the image I am attempting to capture.
In high school we did strictly B&W photography and developed our own images. I still remember the thrill of coaxing the images I had captured to life; it was like creating a slice of a new world frozen forever in a single moment.
I have forgotten much of what I learned in high school photography regarding shutter speeds, exposure times and other camera settings but I am experimenting and slowly re-learning how to make my camera speak in the voice I want.
I recently got a Cannon Powershot SX100is with a 10x optical zoom (it has a digital zoom as well but I do not use it). This camera allows a lot of the control I would get with a digital SLR and very little lag between button click and picture.
I really wanted a digital SLR but could not afford it! Hopefully in the next few years I will get my digital SLR camera and be able to take my photography skills to the next level.
