Leslie Bender was born in Newark, New Jersey. A graduate of the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, Bender also studied at Bennington College, VT; the Art Students League, NYC; and Cobalt Studios. The artist has had solo exhibits at James Cox Gallery at Woodstock, the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, and the Woodstock Artists Association. Her work has been featured in exhibits at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University; The Museum of Modern Art, NYC; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. A gifted muralist and theatrical set designer, Bender has completed ten murals including Angels and Bread Making, Bread Alone Bakery, Boiceville, NY; and St. Marks AME Methodist Church, Kingston, NY. Her theatrical work includes set designs for Capital Rep, Albany, and the premier production of The Other Voice, an operetta by Gail Godwin and Robert Starer
