Koi do quite well in mild to moderate winter climates and can easily overwinter in the deeper water of a pond as long as an opening in the ice is provided to off gas the results of decomposing matter and provide fresh oxygen. The Koi will eat very little and go into an almost hibernation mode. Their colors are usually more intense in the winter. Warmer spring days will bring an increase in activity and flashes of color to the wintery scene. Sold
