Grandpa's Cross

My Grandpa recently passed away, so I drew a cross for him, i wanted it to be unique so i didn't do the normal tribal markings, but filled it with holes to show how i feel, like i have a hole in me.I have a more twisted but smaller cross but that one i put a bit much sadness into, so i decided this one. This was done in P&I for Mr. Spence Tatchell My dad's dad. He was a great man who served in world war II He had a long and happy life and was married to my grandma for around 60+ years. He died of Alzheimers and everyone will miss him. Including me, I never got to say goodbye, considering he missed everyone and whenever we left he would get upset and try to come with us, so the last time i saw him i never even got to hug him goodbye, this I thought was a proper way to say goodbye. Goodbye Grandpa, we all love and miss you. Allanna

beautiful. I love your work, because you usually have a reason to make it. when reading your description, I had tears in my eyes. I think it is wonderful you made this for him, and keep up the good work. I'm sorry about your grandfather Allanna. Truly sorry. My grandfather recently had heart surgery, and we were all so scared for him. But thankfully he got through it. So I kind of know how you feel. I wish you great strength with getting through this. ~Abby

Artist Reply: Thank you Abby! I quite like your art, and usually i cant make a half decent drawing if i dont have some inspiration of SOME sort, even if it is twisted inside out and well, very different from what i originally saw and felt, but it usually has the same feel.I hope your grandfather lives along time!

Precious Allanna Please know that all you've felt for your Grandpa and all the hugs you didn't give nor words you never had a chance to say ...He knows and feels each one of them now !! He is with the one who can also fill all the holes and leave one that's only reserved for your Grandpa ... how fitting He would be called the Holy One. Embrace not only the image you've created so Beautifully but its origin. I was at my Mom Mom's bedside when she crossed over January 30,2007 and I can tell you it is never easy she was 93 we're never ready for this passage of life which is so much apart of life, We all must travel that way ..unless Christ comes for us all at once...Be Blessed Honey through your loss you have Blessed so many in sharing your Art I pray Peace and Joy overtake you and give you fresh wind for your coming days !!!

Artist Reply: Thank you so much Lynnette, The way the indians ( im not sure which clan but,) they used to get up everymornign after someone died and watch the sunrise until one day, it was copper coloured, and then they would know that their deceased familly member had made it safely to the next world. how nice huh?

Absolutely stunning, Allanna. The piece is just as beautiful as the sentiment behind it. I particularly love the two intertwined hearts at the center of the cross on the vertical. Remember, BananaBread, your pain will not last forever but your memories and your love will. :)

Artist Reply: Thank you! yea the two intertwined hearts are suppose to be my grandma and grandpa considering they loved each other so, so much.

Allanna, this is a fantastic tribute to your grandfather. I understand the holes that may never be filled in. If you keep his love in your heart, it will always be with you and no one can ever take that away. I have a cross I wear, not many understand but me. It's a cross made up of skulls and I wear it next to a pin of a dove. I think I would trade it for a cross such as the one you have expressed in this art work. Grow from the pain you feel, embrase it and learn to smile when you recall it, for in doing so you are letting your grandfather know you loved him as he did you. You will smile again Banana Bread... Beautiful artwork and so it is because it is filled with emotion and heart... ...jeff...

Artist Reply: This made me smile. ^-^
