Self Portrait

Rick Corbett is a native of Northern Massachusetts where he still resides. At a young age, he discovered a passion for drawing. Being completely self taught, he learned to draw by reading books on the Great Master Painters, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Rembrandt, Artemesia, but it was the German Painter, Albrecht Durer that turned him to realism. After seeing Durer's illustration of "The Hare", he was hooked and knew that realism was what he wanted to achieve in his art.

With no formal art training, Rick spends hours upon hours perfecting his technique. "I am a lifelong student of art" Rick often says as he works to develop patience as he works toward his goal of achieving realism.

Rick is inspired not only by other artists but from life itself. "I am inspired by people, textures, smells, sounds, all my senses seem to come alive when I draw. My drawings take me on an artistic journey of self discovery. I feel my soul awaken when I draw. GOD has given me a gift and it's a gift I hope to use to bring people closer together. It's a gift I hope to use to capture the beauty that's in this World. I don't want my drawings to simply be pictures drawn on pieces of paper - I want my drawings to be a celebration of life".

For drawings done in graphite pencil, I only use high quality graphite pencils such as Prismacolor Premier Torquoise pencils, with a Prismacolor Ebony Pencil for rich deep dark tones, Pentel GraphGear 1000 mechanical pencils with Pentel Ain Stein and Hi-Polymer leads, Derwent Graphic Drawings Pencils, Faber-Castell 9000, Faber-Castell Pitt Matt Pencils, and Staedtler Mars Lumagraph Black pencils.

For drawings done in colored pencils, I only use professional grade highly pigmented colored pencils such as Prismacolor Premier colored pencils, Derwent Lightfast, Faber-Castell Polychromos, and Caran D’Ache Luminance

For paper, I only use high quality, archival, and acid free, Arches 140lb 100% cotton Hot Press, Legion Stonehenge, and Strathmore 300 Series Bristol Smooth (for human portraiture) and Strathmore Bristol Vellum (for animal portraiture)

How is the Drawing Protected?
Once the drawing is complete, I spray it with a Museum Quality Fine Art fixative called Krylon Gallery Series Fine Art Fixatif. This fine art fixative is a low solid fixative that provides invisible protection to fragile dry media without dissolving whites and lights. The fixative protects the artwork from dust, smudging, and fading. The fixative contains UV light absorbers and stabilizers to help prevent certain colors from fading over time due to direct sunlight and harmful UV rays

Purchasing artwork is an investment, I want to protect that investment as much as possible so that you can have a lifetime of enjoyment
