Self Portrait

I call my work "Repousse- style" because it is not done in the traditional way. I make my own tools and choose to use an anvil as opposed to a pitch pot. The process of heating and cooling in various methods has led to the colors that can be seen. I often refer to my pieces as copper paintings. The approach is similar in dealing with depth, texture and color. Inspiration comes from a combination of the past and a surreal view of reality. I always like to focus on the negative shape of an object, although in a positive way. This has allowed for some of the interesting designs that can be created. Satisfaction comes from being able to create 3 or even 4 different planes from a flat piece of metal. The metal of choice being copper. People approach the work from two directions. One being the subject matter... they like what they see. The second is the mechanical side. How the metal was worked and manipulated. The simplest of designs can come to life after being worked on an anvil. Thanks for taking the time.
