Self Portrait

Born and raised in Oklahoma. I have been carving for 25 years (not counting the pointed boards I proudly called toy boats as a kid). But it has just been the past ten years that I have taken it more serious and tried to improve my work with every piece.

My very first true carvings were made with xacto knives after I went to my first woodcarving show. I stopped on the way home and bought the only tools I could afford at the time. I love it when the piece of wood shows me what it will be before I start. I mainly use Hickory, Black Walnut, and Maple, but have carved a few other kinds of wood. I prefer the hard woods. I have carved many different subjects but enjoy doing faces more than anything else.

These carvings are in the area of 12 to 16 inches tall. They are done in Maple and have been stained. I normally use chisles, and a mallet if needed, but in some delicate areas I may use a dremel.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my work, and all of your comments are appreciated.
