Self Portrait

Evonne Bishop has had a passion for expressing her feelings, emotions and a love of life with artistic expression since a little girl. She was encouraged by her father at an early age to explore her artistic gift in painting the human form and portrait. As her talent grew she became accomplished in her skill to paint in oils, pastels and acrylics, which came to include portraits, landscapes, still life and seascapes. Recognition of her talent came when she served in Jackson, Kentucky between 1984-1985 to teach the Bible as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. For work, one of the ways she supported herself was by painting portraits in chalk and colored pencil of those who commissioned her in the county. She studied under Joyce Hasselbeck Fowler for three years to learn portraiture in pastels. She has won many awards in the Sonoma and Petaluma Fairs. Her work has been in galleries in California and in Hawaii and been shown and sold in the Kendall Jackson Winery Art and Wine Show in Sonoma County California. Many, who love her expressions of the human form and protraiture, have commissioned her to paint for them. She pursued her passion to learn when moving to Kauai and studied oils under Fanny Biladeau. Together they took many workshops in Plein Air Painting from many famous artists that would visit the island. The Historical Society of Kauai showed portraits painted by Evonne of antique black and white photos of Hawaiian culture in Kauai in a show in Lihue and a gallery in Kapaa. She sold many paintings in galleries and gift shops on the island of Kauai. Because of wanting to experience painting in the wine country again and to be closer to family, she and her husband decided to move to Northern California. Since her move she has added to her many talents, the painting of murals in acrylic. With the loving support of her husband, Stephen, she continues to express her love for creation, life and the human form by currrently painting in the wine country north of San Francisco, California. Evonne's work speaks of emotion, depth and color; always looking to express the abundant natural beauty around her. Subjects range from the Human form to Architecture, Botanicals as well as Sea and Landscapes. Grateful to the Creator, Jehovah, for her talents, Evonne invites you to share the adventure and let her capture the emotion!
