Artist Bio

A Kansas City native, Jon Bidwell has been a freelance natural light portrait photographer and graphic designer since 1996. Early in his career he began experimenting with the production of all digital fine art in his spare time. His goals were two fold; to create images using a computer which still retained a natural, hand-painted appearance, and secondly, to shoot digital photographs which look as good, if not better than their film counterparts. In 1999 he quit shooting film entirely and began producing images 100% digitally, despite warnings from his contemporaries that digital photography would never be accepted as an art form. Jon continued nonetheless, and in 2002 began producing limited edition and open edition, hand-signed, pigment based prints of both his photography and digital abstract artwork. After his first exhibition at The Panacea Gallery in Kansas Citys west bottoms in November 2002, the popularity of his unique vision has exploded. He has since exhibited at nightclubs and restaurants around the city, The APEX Gallery in The Crossroads District, The Society for Contemporary Photography, The Overland Park Convention Center as well The Parkville, Prairie Village & Westport Art Fairs. In its September 19, 2004 Sunday Edition, The Kansas City Star featured his photography on the cover page of The Arts section due to the popularity of his booth at Art Westport. Prints are held in collections by clients in cities ranging from Hong Kong to London to New York and everywhere in between. Mr. Bidwells work is presently installed in The Monarch Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri as well as The Sundance Photo Gallery in Weston, Missouri. His entire portfolio is always available for viewing online at www.jonbidwell.com.
