My work has won awards that include a Best of the Show in 2007. This same piece was accepted into the Annual Dogwood Festival in Knoxville, TN in 2008. Most of my original pieces are now in private collections.
My artwork represents and reflects some form of relationship, and I draw inspiration from my Faith, Family, and Friends. My tool of choice is the awesome graphite pencil, but I am quickly falling in love with soft pastels, monotype printing and watercolor.
I strive to re-create, with graphite pencils, life on my paper in such a way that it makes my viewer want to reach out to touch it. I want people to have to stop and take a second look at a drawing because they couldn’t believe their eyes at first glance. It is a great compliment when a person sees their piece for the first time, and they have to fight back the tears. I also know that I have accomplished my goals when the three year old looks up at their portrait and says with a sigh, “Ah, that’s me.”
I have a series that I call “Skies Over Jericho.” The pastel paintings in this series are of the glorious sunrises over the mountains that I see out of my studio windows every morning. Some in this series are of storms that threaten and rumble overhead. All of the paintings in this series will be re-creations of the beautiful skies over our family farm that we call Jericho. Now to define myself personally. I am a Christian, the wife of a State Representative, and mother of five wonderful children. My passion is to always be either learning or teaching, and I love good books. I believe that cooking is an Art, not a Science. Coffee goes with most anything! People are always more important than things, and I am always looking for ways to make the people in my life feel special. I look at poetry as words with paint on them, and a really good conversation is a masterpiece. I try to always enjoy the journey!
