Self Portrait

Founder/Artist/Marketing Dir. of MW Kokopelli Fine Arts! As a retired Therapist/Clinician II/Professional Actor{SAG-Aftra originally located in Atlanta, GA, now Indianapolis, Indiana} I hold an M.Div. in Communications & Fine Arts from Christian Theological Seminary, located in Indianapolis, IN...worked as student assistant to Dr. Alfred Edyvean, Prof. of Communications & Director of CTS Repertory Theatre. I also hold a B.A. from Hiram College, Hiram, OH, in Religion, where I received Departmental Honors.

I create art in all mediums and produce commissioned art pieces,...usually creating many modernistic, energy-inspired pieces, in a creative spirit, with passionate emotion, and often, in a very detail-oriented style. I will paint/create whatever artwork you desire in a multi-faceted process, including honoring someone you consider as one of your heroes, or loved ones, and people in history. I consider myself an eclectic artist, currently living in the really-haunted, Historic Irvington, Indianapolis, IN. As of 7-04-2017, I have sold 281 art pieces...and I am currently illustrating a Sci-Fi. horror novel, which will be in a book with numerous nightmares and horror stories,...coming out in 2017...a collaborative effort in collaboration with the highly recognized Poe Poet-Rich Orth, located in Baltimore, Maryland, and the absolute premier dark artist, Alex Kautz, Toronto, Canada! It includes numerous authors, other poets, other incredible illustrations and photography.

My art pieces often reflect a flare for surrealism, sci-fi/fantasy, graphic collages, expressionistic tendencies, cryptic images, abstract images and inked symbolism! A Past member of the Artist's Guild in Irvington, I am also a member of SAG-AFTRA (In Good Standing, as Mark Kokopelli Watkins). Since 1991, I have signed all of my art pieces with an abbreviated form of my SAG name: MW Kokopelli c.1991.

I've enjoyed teaching acrylic & sketch/illustration classes at Michaels Arts & Crafts Stores, Warren Central H.S., Charter Schools, and Acting for film/TV/Theatre at the Indianapolis Art Center. For two years, I assisted art professors, in numerous sketch and drawing classes, at Herron School of Art and Graphic Design @ I.U.P.U.I., Indianapolis, IN.

Early on, I started winning prizes for my art pieces...a chalk portrait of my dad in the 2nd grade; 2 mixed-media pieces for a contest at the Cleveland Art Museum, while a student at Hiram College...continuing my artistic skills all the way through graduate school creating and building sets for stage productions. To date, I have sold 281 art pieces to people and businesses across the U.S.A. & Canada, and given 101 pieces away as gifts, or to support non-profits, i.e., “TEAMwork for Quality Living," a Muncie, IN, organization which empowers people to move to self-sufficiency; the "Benton House," Historic Irvington, Indianapolis, IN; "The U.S. Marines Coffee Drive," sponsored by Lazy Daze Coffee House in Indy; The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival silent Auctions, etc.. I have held 32 art shows in metro-Indianapolis since my opening in 2001, at the Bona Thompson Historic Center in Historic Irvington,...also including shows at Dave & Busters, The Legend Restaurant, The Irving Theater, The MUG Restaurant, four First Fridays in the Historic Irvington movie house, THE IRVING, 21 shows at Lazy Daze Coffeehouse and two shows at 10 South Johnson Coffee House. I now have artwork hanging in The Mug Restaurant here in Historic Irvington, all for sale!

I thoroughly enjoy studying the artwork created by the following artists: Marc Chagall, Feininger, Dali, J. Immendorff, Munch, Picasso, Monet, Alex Kautz and many other inspiring artists.

I work on comission as a freelance artist/illustrator/photographer/writer, and would be glad to join your project, or collaboration for reasonable compensation, or contribute art pieces to your non-profit cause.

For more information, please contact me by g-mail: [email protected], or call me, about purchasing my artwork originals, or prints; or even better, I am available for commissions and collaborations,...especially paintings/illustrations for books, graphic art designs and art projects.
