Self Portrait

Hi, to all. My name is Will Kirkland and I am a retired full professor who taught at a small Catholic University for 31 years. I taught gross anatomy, human physiology, and genetics in the biology department. For many years I also taught cartooning during the month of January. I am a self-taught artist, but have been a closet artist for probably most of my life. However, it is only since my retirement from academia in 2011 that I have devoted much more of my attention toward my art. I just recently joined the ArtWanted.com community and am still feeling my way around. My medium of choice is Prismacolor Verithin colored pencils and the surface that I now prefer is Grafix drafting film or Dura-Lar film, both of which have a matte surface on both sides. I have enjoyed receiving comments about my art from several of you and have enjoyed just as much viewing and commenting on the art of others of you. When I am not at my art table working on a painting, I am out riding my bicycle. My wife of 47 years says that she is glad to have me out of the house and away from my drawing table for a couple of hours each day! Since my retirement, I have averaged over 2000 miles each riding season. I look forward to continuing to upload my painting to my portfolio, hearing from many of you, commenting on the great work that I find is representative of ArtWanted.com. , and continuing to ride my bicycle.
