I haven't been able to get as many pictures from the park or drives in the country as my truck stopped running a month ago and I still haven't been able to get it fixed. However, it has given me the opportunity to start drawing again so in the next few days I should have some updates on those. Needless to say, this summer isn't starting out too well for me.

I have to admit I didn't get out and get many photos the past couple of months. This year I just don't have the Christmas spirit. I did put up a tree and finally went out to the park to get pictures of the lights at the park. I had already known that nobody was getting together for Christmas even before this winter storm hit. So I'm spending Christmas alone as expected but now I'm also not going anywhere due to 30 below.

Merry Christmas to all of you. Hope you're able to be with family and friends. For those having to deal with the winter storm, stay safe and warm.

I have lived in Grant County, Indiana all of my life and for the past 34 years they have held an annual battle reenactment of the 1812 Battle of Mississinewa. This started after I was out of high school so unlike some of my nieces, nephews, coworkers, etc. I never had the opportunity to see it with a class. I've also never really considered going to it. However, this past weekend I decided to go for the first time and now wonder why I never went previously. I decided attending this would give me a great opportunity to try my photography skills on people and combine that with my love for taking pictures of landscapes and animals. I am more than pleased with the results of most of those photos. In all, I took 180 pictures and 3 videos. In the next several days, I plan to upload a few of the better ones. I hope others will enjoy them and that it will also spark an interest in history and events from wherever they may be. I now look forward to next year's event, but also to see if there are similar events nearby for more photo opportunities. Another plus is how some of these photos have now inspired me to use a couple of them for references for new drawings/portraits.

Until next time, may your days be blessed. Qui ne risque rien n'a rien; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This past weekend in Fairmount, IN, they held the annual James Dean Days. This annual event includes a classic car show, music performers, a James Dean look-alike contest, and more. There is also another car show and a motorcycle rally all held that weekend in the same county. The main concert this year was Thomas Gabriel, grandson of Johnny Cash, which I got a few pictures of him performing but wasn't sure about posting them.

The weekend of October 7-9 another big event here is the reenactment of the Mississinewa 1812 battle. I have lived here all of my life and never gone to see it. This year, though, I finally bought a ticket and decided to go and hopefully get some pictures to share. I thought it would be a nice challenge to try something new with the camera.

Once again it seems I neglect putting up a blog entry despite the many photos I upload. I did post several photos from the Indy Airstrip racing event in Marion, IN back on August 12-13. Its always a fun event to see some of these cars going in excess of 200mph. Also, recently, i was finally able to get a few shots of the hummingbird that comes around infrequently. Hope to get more and a few of it captured in flight.

This past weekend was the annual Fly-In/Cruise In at the local airport. They always have several planes and one special plane come in for the event. This year they had a C-53 Skytrooper at the event. I was able to get several pictures of it on the ground and in flight. The event also includes a car show, old tractors, military vehicles, and more. I came away from there with 150 photos and will be posting a few of them here soon.

The next big event around here will be the James Dean Festival in Fairmount, IN September 23-25. I missed the event last year due to my truck breaking down that weekend. Hopefully, I get there this year as I usually end up with close to 200 photos from it. Maybe some of these pictures I share will be ones that you enjoy or inspire you to try. If there is something you'd like to see more of or ideas to add to my works, please leave a comment. I'd like to expand my works and admit I seem to fall into a rut of posting the same stuff.

Until next time, may your days be blessed. Qui ne risque rien n'a rien; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I never seem to keep up with my blogs. I suppose it's just from never really knowing what I want to put in it or believing it would be of any interest to others. Since my last entry, I was promoted to full-time at a place where I had been one of the managers back before Covid. I gave it up and started focusing more on my drawings and photography but when I was asked to come back part-time, I agreed. Then when new hires wouldn't stay and work, I agreed to go back to full-time. Now I only seem to have time to draw or go out looking for photo opportunities on the weekends.

In that time, I finished a memorial portrait of my mother and her 2 sisters who are all deceased. I also finished a portrait of a childhood friend who passed away unexpectedly last September. I have had several opportunities to take and share pictures of flowers and birds the past couple of months. August and September should provide me with ample moments to get photos and even ideas for some new drawings as there will be the Indy Airstrip racing, a fly-in cruise in plane and car show, and ending September with the James Dean Festival.

For now, I hope you like some of the pictures and drawings I've shared and may each day be a blessing to you. Until next time, Qui ne risque rien n'a rien; Nothing ventured, nothing gained

Finally starting to feel better and for the first time in months I was able to get out to the park for a walk. They now have it decorated with Christmas lights so will be adding a couple of those pics along with pics from the sunrise this morning when heading to work.

Due to health problems and my truck breaking down I haven't been able to get out to the park and get any pictures. Factor in work and I have even less time to even get outside and get pictures around the house or neighborhood. At this rate I'm thinking I'll miss the turning of the leaves but might be able to get the snow once it arrives.

This summer has been a long and frustrating one as I've been looking for work and had several interviews but no offers. The month of July and part of August was hot and humid and caused a lot of problems with my asthma which cut down on the amount of time I went out and took walks or get pictures. However, yesterday the temperatures were nice and I was able to get out and go to the local air show and ended up getting several pictures. I am putting a few of them up and hope you enjoy them.

I had a couple of lenses that I had been wanting to practice with outdoors, but weather wasn't cooperating for a couple of days. I decided to try the macro lens on a Crystal Head glass skull that I have. With the skull empty I didn't like the results as was really unable to distinguish the features in it. I was going to try to put a string of Christmas lights in it and turn them on but the end was too large for the opening so I decided to try a string of silver garland. As I got ready to take the picture I wanted something more to go with it and decided to put it on a chess board that was being used and just had an opening for the skull to fit. These shots are now in my still life folder.

I did finally get a chance to also practice with a 400mm zoom lens outdoors. I used it for the shot of the hydrangeas, waterfall, and the stone foot bridge that are now posted. It will take some getting used to as a little heavier than I expected making me take my time to steady the shot. Which I guess that's a good thing.
