SLIDE......!!!

Each year we try to plan a trip across Chinook Pass to visit relatives in Yakima and see the fall colors before they close the pass for the winter. We have missed the last two years, so when the weather seemed to co-operate we took off for a Saturday visit. This landslide was all over the news in Oct. of 2009, but to actually see it was truly awesome. The mountain just collaped covering 1/2 a mile of Hwy 410, 80 acres, in debris up to 40 ft. thick. The Naches River was redirected around the huge mound of earth. Geologist say that this is just the toe of a possible gigantic slide still to come. The first photo is taken from the west side of the slide and the second one, the east side, going 45 mph. More info at this site, www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=9224 We are just observers of this living earth...
