after Edwin F. Stover had already established a feed enterprise in various, leased Perkasie locations in the late 1890's, this much larger, consolidated, state-of-the-art milling complex was built in 1938, by his heirs and family on 7th Street in Perkasie. This was a large volume operation with a train barn (that no longer receives rail service) and still stands adjacent. The Stover Feed Company provided and moved bulk shipments of grains and feeds throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. A good friend's father started working here, soon after the mill opened, unloading box rail cars full of 100lb sacks of grain... by hand... before advancing to sales... enhanced by his ability to converse with "Pennsylvania Dutch" (Pennsilfaanisch-Deitsche) speaking dairy farmers. Known simply as Stover's Mill, as I was growing up, the Stover Feed Company was sold and purchased by the Davis Feed Company, of Rushland, PA and renamed in the late 1980's. The Davis Mill continues to produce and distribute feed and sell a Purina line of products.
