The Zillertalbahn

When we visited the Ziller Valley (Austria) last year, the weather, during an otherwise sunny holiday, was terribly bad. Looking through the brochures in the hotel lobby, I discovered the Zillertalbahn. The brochure stated the following: A ride on the nostalgic Zillertalbahn is a special experience. The narrow gauge train runs, just like when it was commissioned in 1902, with a steam locomotive from Jenbach to Mayrhofen in the Zillertal. At a speed of 35 kilometers per hour, the train travels the 32-kilometer route through the Zillertal. The crystal wagon is special, with 62,000 Swarovski crystals. A childhood dream is fulfilled by driving the train yourself as a train driver: in summer this is possible every Friday. Image size: 260 x 360 mm
