The Gatehouse, Kenilworth Castle

Brief History. The castle dates back to the 1120's. Built by Geoffrey de Clinton the Chamberlain of Henry 1. It was acquired by Henry 11 in 1173 and was extended by King John in the 13th century . It remained basically a Royal castle until the civil war. The gatehouse was built in the late 1500's. The gatehouse was converted into a residence by the Parliamentary Commander Col. Hawkesworth. Sadly the castle is now in ruins, but the gatehouse and gardens remain. See image 163, pencil sketch of Kenilworth Castle ruins as well to give you a greater overview.

A lot of history in that old gatehouse, Kevin. Very well done. I've always wanted to do a walking tour in that part of the world but I may have waited a bit too long. You captured the sense of being there, I think. :)

Artist Reply: Thank you for your kind comment Charles. Just love old buildings and the history behind them. In the Midlands of the UK,around Birmingham and Warwickshire, there is loads of historic places. I live about 20miles from Stratford upon Avon and Warwick. Some of the buildings date back to the Norman Conquest. I used to do loads of walking, but sadly l cannot do it anymore due to medical negligence which has left me permanently disabled. Grew up in the 60's,so l'm an old fart now. Just keep my mind active with my painting. Just finished university, did an art degree. Keep safe and well.

What a fantastic remarkable architecture artwork Kevin. Thanks for the historic details. I am impressed. My FAV and Pod.

Artist Reply: Thank you dear Nira. I think it might be Ok, when such a talented, international artist like yourself takes the time to make a comment about the piece. So thank you Nira yet again.
