USA Freight Class

I broke my “art therapy” journey with this work and the one for the essay about the Canadian Freedom Convoy. Both were created at the time these issues were current. Since then, many disturbing details have come to light that have crippled my ability to write about the US trucker convoy with the same naivety and enthusiasm as with the Canadian essay. By the time I finished this work, I couldn’t even give it a title having grown frustrated with our jackknifed ideologies. We all need one another in our respective roles. The only progress ever made from pushing a string was in the making of our American flag. The progress we need will require us to stop and recognize we all have a stake in this we can ‘drive’ to save or destroy our nation. Therefore, I don’t have as much to offer for this work. Except to say I didn’t have any “iconic” images from which to work, so I made one by sketching from an image of the traffic jam at a toll station as they were approaching D.C. and overlaying with a 1776 American flag. I started my art therapy journey to separate myself, creatively, from politics. I’ve since returned to art, both as therapy and the freedom of the simple pleasure of it that no one—including myself—can or should deny. I continue to hope and pray for an outcome of all that’s happened and happening in my own country and around the world that we can all live with in peace and prosperity once again. I ache in my soul for this, but the weight of that ache is so crushing I sought refuge through art and broke my journey with these works. And, so, I’m returning once again to my original terms—picking up where I left off—to paint or sketch things that are soothing or interesting to me with the hope they’ll be soothing and or interesting to others in the process…along the journey.
