Adonis

A picture for the Super Contest of ArtDuel, the subject was 'Gods and Godesses'. I drew Adonis, surrounded by all the things that belong to him. The windflowers, hyacinths, dogs and Venus with her carriage drawn by swans.

From what I remember of Adonis you've really captured him, Anneke! Staring and posing for the "camera" and ignoring the lovely lady Venus, child, and the beautiful dogs which have captured the attention of Venus and the child! Great work at arranging these folks, and what a beautiful surrounding park! The perfect hyacinths, the pond with the “free” swans and the carriage swans eyeing each other, and the fantastic imaginative fairly-tale carriage, definitely fit for a goddess! Ahh! and the tremendous depth Anneke has created back across the vast expanse of lawn. How perfectly she has utilized the light on that lawn and the marvelous gradually scaled-down and fading trees to create that depth. I’d hate to have to walk that far with a very heavy load! Truly, here is a painting I think only a goddess could create. Thank you Ms Hut! Peace, etc., Bruce

Artist Reply: Dear Bruce, thank you so much for the sweet and wonderful comment to my Adonis! Haha it may be clear that I'm not such a big fan of Adonis, I love it how you see the posing for the camera, just what I intended! The whole picture came just out of my imagination, I'm glad you like it. Always great to have you as a guest in my gallery, Bruce, thanks again!

Elf Evans 17 Aug 2007

Very well executed work & story line, my friend, keep 'em commin:_)))

Artist Reply: Thank you very much, Elf. This image is actually some kind of parody, for some reason I think Adonis wasn't a real nice guy, I think he was a bit spoiled. LOL

Stella Violano 08 Nov 2005

Did you win? I love the composition and all the details!

Emily Reed 10 Jul 2005

I hope this won, because it deserves first prize.

Steph Salt 03 Jul 2005

It's lovely Anneke, I didn't know that you had posted it here. I was sure that I added you to my art watch? Well I've added you again, I hope it sticks this time? :)

Artist Reply: Thank you for your kind words, Steph. This picture is actually a bit of parody on Adonis. I think the god himself was kind of a spoiled and decadent man. So I placed him in the middle of the image surrounded by all the stuff and people that were supposed to be in his life. He is only looking at us, do you see? LOL

Cristina Marsi 21 Jun 2005

Very nice concept, Anneke :)

Greg Vilton 21 Jun 2005

Ahah! You've finally posted it on your AW gallery ;-)... This is really a gorgeous pic, Anneke! It shows your great sense of detail, colours and composition. The foreground in particular with all these wonderful flowers is magnificent. Wish you the best of luck for the supercontest!
