St. Augustine Church (2006) (gifted)

St. Augustine Church was built by the free man of color, Augustin Metoyer, on the banks of the Cane River in Lousiana. It is still the spiritual heart of the thriving Creole community of the Cane River area. This painting went to the anesthesiolgist who put me to sleep during a recent operation. I have no idea whether he appreciates art, but it should be a pleasant addition to his collection. I did a larger version of this work several years ago which my wife kept in her personal collection.

Hello David! Hope you're well and recovered from your recent op. This painting is of deep psychological signifcance and I wonder if it's symbolic of your recent brush with the here after. I like the blue of the trees, sky and the church windows. A spiritual colour. This contrasts with the fiery orange reds representing renewal and rebirth. Interesting little painting.
