Avalanche Lilies

In late June or early July, at 5000 to 5500 ft. elevation, the sub-alpine meadows are still wet with snowmelt. (There are still large pockets of snow here and there) The avalanche lilies are everywhere, in open forests and large meadows. They grow to almost a foot tall. When the snows are completely gone, so are the flowers.
