Basket Star

this very unique creature is a basket starfish and yep - all that except for the verical soft coral colony is one animal. A member of the starfish family it is strictly nocturnal and looks like a gob of worms in the daytime. A night it stretches out those incredible arms to feed on microscopic plankton. It is extremely light sensitive and can move very quickly and for all those reasons quite difficult to photograph. Enjoy!
