Street artist in Paris

(c)2008 Armando Salas ----Photo taken in Paris. January 15, 2007, after the international tribute to Anna Politkovskaya at Notre Dame finished. In our way to Eiffel tower, Junior and I met this sculptor. The artist was working the way you can see. He had three dogs although only one appears here (Sorry, I took a second photo but really a horrible photo. Strange light that day; hurricane Kyril was approaching). I asked the artist for permission to take a photo and he agreed. Before we continued our way, Junior and I, simultaneously, left all the coins we had, in the plate. And then we talked about the artist, the dogs. Junior asked: "How many dogs did you see?". "Four" I replied. "I agree" said Armando. Because for both of us, the artist looked so feeble, so helpless... like a dog. It was an impressive and touching experience for us. Nowadays, I'm working on the sketching for a painting about this subject. It will be my tribute to this artist, to all artists. Zoomed image: please look at the face of the dog. Looks like he's really asking for charity. Text on poster: "ONE COIN FOR FOOD FOR MY DOGS AND MYSELF. PLEASE. THANK YOU"

Very touching image, Armando!!! No sé sy no terminaremos todo un dia a necesitar vender nuestros trabajos en la calle!!! Lo que pasa es que si uno eres artista, no puede dejar de exprimirse, sea en la calle o en las galerias... lo que es muy dificil!!! Your image is a point of reflection, and I think on it everyday: I must continue... I must continue... because if I stop I'll loose my soul! You don't imagine How I understant this guy!!!

Artist Reply: I agree; Alberto. We must continue, indeed. The skill for art isn't a personal choice nor a caprice: it's a gift. No one has the right to not use or spend it. I often reflect about this subject and I think it's my duty to continue my creation. It's my contribution to art, culture, beauty, peace. It's my legacy and I'm so proud!
