It's a few weeks early for Avalanche Lilies....but I'm not up there to see if they are starting to break thru the snow as it thins. Happy Mother's Day to all Moms and Grandmoms at AW!!! These lilies are for you......:)

I've never seen these before. Where do they grow?

Artist Reply: Hi Nancy, These beautiful lilies grow in the subalpine meadows and open spots of forests at around 5000 ft. As the snows retreats they cover the ground in the soft wet soil, sometimes poking thru a thin layer of hard snow. As the ground dries out the flowers disappear and many others take their place.
