Hotel Chester is in Starkville, Miss., the city of my birth. During the second world war (before he left to fight across the sea ) my mother worked in the dining room and would wave to my father as he drove the cab in front of the hotel. Meanwhile I would be asleep on a pallet on the floor in the kitchen while the cooks watched over me. This place will always hold a special place in my heart.
