18 in. X 24 in., acrylic on canvas. Like Arshile Gorky or Joan Miro, I like the idea of starting with an story, a memory or a vision as a starting point to inspire my work, and then letting the process carry me from there. Reducing the recognizable world to line, shape, color which push and pull each other into dynamic compositions is exciting for the painter, and it is this excitment that we try to pass along to the viewer. The holes punched through this composition is my way of connecting to the ancient past. Western art was built on the admiration if not worship of ancient works that were known in a fragmented and incomplete state. I like to remind the viewer of this heroic decay, and also the future fate of what seems to be so precious and invincible now.
