Bokito today

Bokito became the world's most famous gorilla after escaping from his dwellings at the Zoo in Rotterdam.18 Mai 2007.It is said that a woman who was a regular visitor irritated him with her presence and efforts to get his attention. She was already warned not to do this by the staff. What no one thought was possible, happens. Bokito, the 400 pound ape, climbed over a big wall and attaqued the visitor, than he had run free in the zoo and visit the restaurant like King Kong and freightend the visitors there. He was catched and locked up again but the story was big world news. Google: Bokito, or look at www.YouTube.com to see some fims of the escape. The new safety measures that where taken has costed 700.000 Euro. Today you can see him again,in all his glory,so I could took this photo of him. I am sorry it is a little blurred but that is the thick safetyglas, and after reading this story, you will understand that. Since that time a new word was born in the Dutch language: Bokitoproof

Agree with M J Mitchell

Artist Reply: Thank you Ann, I could not agree more. I given MJ a answer about this topic. If you want to read it... Just by placing this photo of Bokito in all his glory I wanted to bring attention to the need of preserving this fine specimen of animal life. Have a nice day Ann...

He is glorious - but I can't help but feel sadness when I look at this photo - how it must feel to be in "prison". Wonderful to inform and try to conserve, but my heartstrings always tug. Wonderful photo!!!

Artist Reply: You certainly have a point there MJ. The only think I can say here what Bokito concerns, he is living on a big island and has a place to retreat, with a lot of trees and he has his harem. It is not ideal, I admit.. but nature with human "help" is so very cruel to gorilla's nowadays. Bokito is such an exemple of a great ape, people must see that, it must be brought to the attention that men are destoying the habitat of many animals.
