Dressed by nature

© 2009 Armando Salas. --- I knew Emilia thirty years ago but my wife was born at El Val and knows her from childhood. Emilia always was a charming and friendly neighbor and her tiny house is just in front of my home on the other side of the road. She hasn't family and nowadays is 100+ years old. Very ill in the last years, she is in bed and the nuns take care of her at asylum. While Emilia is leaving us step by step to meet the Lord in peace as she always lived, looks like her house thinks its mission is accomplished and wants to be buried also, dressed by nature...

oh my goodness, so is this house abandoned now? Emilia's story in endearing...God has Blessed her with a long life, even if it is just to tell the story and show this photo. what a nice friend & neighbor you are.

Artist Reply: Yes, Delia, it's abandoned now although as you can see, someone replaced the damaged pieces on the roof after cyclone. Since Emilia hasn't family, the work was made by a neighbor, for sure. Rural people is very friendly and cooperative, always ready to help. I heard this house already belongs to the nuns of asylum that are taking care of her and I suppose that, sooner or later, the Cooperativa de O'Val (the store behind the house) will buy it to enlarge the parking.- Few years ago the road was widened, the engineers modified the initial project to avoid the house could be demolished. Luckily, sometimes the authorities also have heart and feelings.

Such a sweet story. I hope she will have a peaceful death at the end of her years.
