Green Lake and Islands

This lake in the eastern Sierra Nevada of California is at 9000 feet elevation. A waterfall falls 100's of feet from another, even higher lake. It is a beautiful hike to get to this high alpine lake. Image copyright Cher Peterson. All rights reserved.

my family and i backpack to this lake every year. these are some great shots. its good to see that waterfall really flowing from west lake, sometimes its not. have u tried hiking the loop from virginia lake? if not i highly recommend it

Artist Reply: I'm so glad you're familiar with Green Lake. The waterfall was really flowing due to lots of snow melt - in mid-June! I heard both East and West Lakes were still snowed in. No, I haven't hiked the loop from Virginia Lake, but would love to continue the hike from East Lake to the Virginia Canyon area and then into Matterhorn Canyon (behind the Sawtooth Peaks). That looks like an incredible trip! Thanks for the visit and comment. Cher
