Temple Mountain Pictograph

This rock art panel was painted by Archaic hunters and gatherers approximately 2000 to 5000 years ago. The painters of this type of rock art, characterized as Barrier Canyon Style, were most likely shamans who painted spirit helpers (snakes, birds) and very stylized anthropomorphs that helped connect them to the spirit world. Dogs are also common in Barrier Canyon Style art. This panel is found at Temple Mountain, in central Utah. Image copyright Cher Peterson. All rights reserved.
