Anthropomorphs 3

This panel of painted figures is located in a remote location in Death Valley National Park. The pictographs (painted rather than pecked or incised) were painted in red ochre (iron oxide), chalk, and other natural pigments. When these figures were painted is unknown, but a number of figures are very faded and weathered, indicating they were created quite some time ago. The Native Americans who painted these figures were desert dwellers. Image copyright Cher Peterson. All rights reserved.
