Union Pacific @ Chimney Rock

... in November of 2016, a road trip took me along Route 92, which flanks National Historic Site, Chimney Rock in western Nebraska. As I traveled, I passed or was passed by several long Union Pacific trains... Powder River Basin coal loads south and empties north... with a small but interesting variety in power. Here we have Union Pacific (UP) #8331 at the head of Kansas City Southern (KCS) #4097, a pair of EMD SD70ACe locomotives built in 2005, and former Southern Pacific (SP) #277, a GE AC44CW built in 1995 and now numbered UP #6321... pulling a load with a trailing pair of armour yellow helpers pushing on the tail. That's well in excess of 20,000 combined horsepower. Chimney Rock, sadly... has lost over half of its height to wind & erosion since those 8 ox power, Oregon Trail wagon trains started using it as a route landmark in the early 19th century.
