A title defense match between Frazier & Ali at the Garden in the heart of Manhattan happened in March-1971, and the hype was historic. Stripped of his heavyweight title for refusing to register in the draft, the undefeated Ali was back after a 3-1/2 year suspension. The undefeated Frazier (cast by many as the villain) was an indestructible force that took up residence in Ali's absence. Frazier retained the heavyweight title in this fight which went down to ringside witnesses as “the fight of the century”.
