I rely on my phone camera to record potential subjects/scenes that I feel may be the basis for future colored pencil paintings. This piece is a good example. While visiting Louisville, Ky. in 2017, we of course had to check out the Louisville slugger factory and museum. It did not disappoint! It was amazing to see and realize that this is where these famous baseball bats are made and that there was so much baseball history to experience here. But this was not the highlight of our visit. We also found an eatery, the Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen, that provided even more than the Louisville slugger museum. After pie and ice cream, I needed to walk around a bit. Off in one corner, I discovered what appeared to be an old movie theater projector on display. I was intrigued by the gearing of the projector and the exposed film running off the reel. This colored pencil painting, entitled "Project Fine Art", is based on this photograph. There were no images visible on the film coming off the reel, but I chose to include a small section of one of my former works to tie in with the title and to provide a small splash of color to the piece. The painting was done on Grafix drafting film using Farber-Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor Premier pencils. The size of the artwork is 18 X 12 inches.
