Humans readily assume animals have abilities they do not. They think dogs and other pets actually understand what they are saying to them. I assure you, they do not. They respond to tone and facial expression at best. And we have idioms we've used for centuries. Like this one. Man, I'm free as a bird or I'd sure like to be free as a bird. But what is it like to be free? Birds aren't in any meaningful way freer than we are. They are constantly on the watch for predators, perpetually in search of food and their lives are, for most, one long song for territorial rights. The only thing they can do is fly. Well, most of them can. This is a 6 by 4 inches drawing on medium bond paper. It's another in a long line of Original Jones Art dripping with irony here in the northwest portion of Austin, Texas.
