I think if we could go back and speak with Gautama Buddha he would urge us to seek balance in all things. Honestly, I think most right-minded individuals whether highly spiritual or not would say likewise. A contrarian and a skeptic, I do not adhere to any organized religion---shall we say, religiously? BUT I have distilled my belief system down to the 'balance in all things' and 'love all as you love yourself' tenets. And you can't love them if you don't trust them, can you?
