WE ALWAYS CALLED THEM BITTEN, BUT GUESS IT IS BITTERN. FIRST ONE I'VE SEEN HERE AT MY POND IN THE WOODS. HAVE SOME NICE SHOTS OF HIM. BUT ONLY A SINGLE IMAGE IT SEEMS TO LOAD FOR ME SO THIS ONE EVEN THOUGH A LITTLE DARK... WAS JUST SO NEAT TO SEE HIM AND HE JUST STUCK AROUND.

Great photo Joanie. I've never seen one of these but, then again, I don't live in an area where they'd be found.Kevin Lambeth 25 Aug 2020
Brilliant photo Joanie. You are extremely lucky to have seen one, as they are very hard to see and are extremely rare. They tend to live in reed beds. You can't mistake their booming cry. I have only ever seen one, and that was many years ago in Norfolk, England.Ray Steele 25 Aug 2020
