Varón III

This is "Varon III", the third piece of my series "Varones" (males). In "Varones" I try to explore masculity. What makes these boys men? Do they look like men? Often, people tell me they look pretty, the pretty "girls" in these paintings. I think it's the long hair, or is it because they're "pretty"? Are men not allowed to be pretty? Does it make them less of a man? Is there something wrong with being feminine, or looking feminine? This one, "Varon III", he's okay with it. Male, female, it's all good to him. He's a man, he knows he's a man, he's got nothing to prove to me or to you. He's happy, this one, his eyes are closed because he's not thinking of it. He's most likely thinking of the cake in the fridge he wants to eat so bad. He's on the right side of "Varon II"; he shields him, along with "Varon I" on the left, from the opinions that hurt him. "Varon II" is sensitive, he wishes things wound't affect him so much, more so coming from people he doesn't care about, but more often than not we can't choose what hurts us and what doesn't. Lucky for him, "Varon III" is here to support him.
