Experiencing or inducing feelings of isolation or estrangement. Now most of us begin with this feeling even when we do not know the definition or even that we are experiencing it. Then we begin the arduous process of acclimation, of finding our niche, of carving out a personal life. But what if suddenly everything you'd learned, accepted and thought true were thrown out and something shallow, materialistic and emotionally cold had taken its place? This is a 6 by 4.5 inches gel pen drawing on medium bond paper and a quick sketch made late last night by that person unknown to many as Original Jones Art as he peers out into the overcast day in northwest Austin, Texas.

Deep thoughts there, Charles! He sure looks a sad sack. Again, your talent always amazes me. If someone asked me or if I decided on my own to draw a face depicting a certain feeling, thought, etc. - well, doubt I'd ever get it right! If I didn't think about it, then it might happen but to just go for it, nope, not in me. I like the angle, not quite all of his face in the drawing, sort of like he just dropped in to take a quick look and ready to back off quickly. You're good, Charles!!!

Artist Reply: Drawing is 'supposed' to be the most direct conduit from the internal to the external, Ginger. Unfortunately, many of us create false narratives, usually via the expediency of imitation--of others who themselves imitate others, etc.---until everything takes on the look and feel of the generic, the commonplace. I've been able to, as a stringent nonconformist and staunch individualist, remain pretty pure in my approach to drawing and my art in general. In other words, if it is popular and mainstream I abhor it out of hand. If it is created to placate and please the masses, ditto. This could be why I appear to exist as a flock of one lonely bird of an indeterminate variety. ;)
