I think if a person can write down his actions of one day and have those self-same actions occur many days hence in much the same order, that would be classified as monotony. There is busy monotony which moves along at a pace that doesn't give one much time to contemplate the drudgery and there is non-busy monotony in which a person has too much time to think about things. Unfortunately, most retired folks fall into the second category. Of course, I've noticed, not everyone is contemplative. This is a 6 by 4 inches gel pen with color pencil drawing on medium weight acid-free paper. Original Jones Art, still existential in northwest Austin, Texas.

I like the rather bewildered look , perhaps the realization of "gee I'm doing the same things everyday" . I deem monotony as something in my control especially now that I'm retired. Strawberries instead of blueberries in my oatmeal and today I think i'll shower in the backyard with the hose, slap my belly and have a shot of vodka . lol ... That said, your monotony produces great work that I enjoy and look forward to, Charles : )

Artist Reply: Dave, I've always thought of myself as a devout introvert but I'm beginning to believe that was only a rationalization to explain or excuse other things going on in my life. Reinvention of 'self' has been periodic and not as sporadic as I'd have liked. Maybe that's true for most? :)

Very interesting, but he doesn't look bored, yah ,the same Old every day in Routine,,,,now retired from Tax dept.shuffling papers,,,,put the drip coffee on,at 6am every morning,go out on the deck, view the mountains,Check on my Bee Hives, come in have breakfast, wife's got the eggs happening,I get the toast going,,,another coffee,,then we are ready for the day,,,,,,,,yah, the mornings are fairly monotinous,,but the rest of the day, well where does it go,,,,,,,

Artist Reply: A lot of my images have eyes that seem like they've seen too much of something or, maybe, not enough of anything, Al. Lately, I've had to use my mind;s eye more than my blue ones which means harvesting the grey matter. At least it keeps me entertained but too much consistency, even of the creative variety, can become....monotonous. Thanks for commenting. :)
